That’s right, Southampton Game Fest: Soton’s second gaming related event this month and one that gets me notably more excited than the thought of paying £12.50 to watch people playing Counter-Strike on a cinema screen.
Southampton Game Fest is a charity event being hosted by Soton Gaming Hub and is being held to help raise money for Special Effect (Charity No: 1121004). According to the Soton Gaming Hub Facebook page, 70% of total profits will be donated to Special Effect with the last 30% reserved for future events. I genuinely hope this is a success, not only because having a local game festival is awesome (I hate the outside so having to travel in it less is great for me) but because Special Effect is an amazing charity that helps to make games more accessible to people living with physical disabilities. The event itself will be showcasing new games, rarer retro games and 5 gaming tournaments with prizes and will take place at the Engine Room (Mo’s Club) near West Quay Shopping Center. Tickets can be purchased here.

- Competitive Mario Kart Tournament, presented by Street Pass Soton. Prizes: Mario Kart Trophy and 10% of total buy in.
- Mortal Kombat X Tournament, presented by The Bit. Prize is 20% of the total buy in.
- Hearthstone Tournament (to be held at the Alexandra pub, off London Road).
