The newly announced Paper Mario game has me exited simply because it’s a newly announced Paper Mario game. I’m on board! I love the Paper Mario series!
Still, Nintendo aren’t one to make a series follow up without a gimmick, however, so the latest Paper Mario seems to have a bit of Splatoon envy as focus has been placed on your ability to splat paint around. Ostensibly, you’re bringing colour back to a world where it’s being drained away. If that sounds familiar, it’s a little reminiscent The Unfinished Swan, so hopefully Paper Mario can make something more of the mechanic than what has been shown so far.
It’s contemporaries in the paint-splat genre have done such a wonderful job already in bringing the fun out of splatting paint around, it’s difficult to imagine Nintendo don’t have something clever sitting up their sleeves, and even if that isn’t the case Paper Mario has always been a delightful and playful series; having a new tool to make visual jokes is something I can welcome with open arms.
So far, all that’s been said is that it will be available in 2016. Here, have some screenshots for now:
